Today technology has created a world of dazzling progress, growing disparities of wealth and poverty, and looming threats to the environment. Technology: A World History offers an illuminating backdrop to our present moment--a brilliant history of invention around the globe. Historian Daniel R. Headrick ranges from the Stone Age and the beginnings of agriculture to the Industrial Revolution and the electronic revolution of the recent past. In tracing the growing power of humans over nature through increasingly powerful innovations, he compares the evolution of technology in different parts of the world, providing a much broader account than is found in other histories of technology. We also discover how small changes sometimes have dramatic results--how, for instance, the stirrup revolutionized war and gave the Mongols a deadly advantage over the Chinese. And how the nailed horseshoe was a pivotal breakthrough for western farmers. Enlivened with many illustrations, Technology offers a fascinating look at the spread of inventions around the world, both as boons for humanity and as weapons of destruction.

Don't you type of hate how we have entered the decadent period of Goodreads wherein possibly fifty per cent (or more) of the reviews written by non-teenagers and non-romancers are now bare and unabashed in their variously effective efforts at being posture, wry, meta, parodic, confessional, and/or snarky? Don't you sort of wood (secretly, in the marrow of your gut's happy druthers) for the great ol'times of Goodreads (known then as GodFearingGoodlyReading.com) when all evaluations were uniformly plainspoke Don't you sort of hate how we have entered the decadent phase of Goodreads where probably fifty percent (or more) of the evaluations compiled by non-teenagers and non-romancers are actually bare and unabashed inside their variously powerful attempts at being posture, wry, meta, parodic, confessional, and/or snarky? Don't you sort of maple (secretly, in the marrow of one's gut's happy druthers) for the good ol'days of Goodreads (known then as GodFearingGoodlyReading.com) when all evaluations were consistently plainspoken, simply functional, unpretentious, and -- above all otherwise -- boring, boring, boring? Don't you type of loathe when people say'do not you believe in this manner or sense that way'in an effort to goad you equally psychologically and grammatically in to accepting using them? In the language of ABBA: I actually do, I really do, I do(, I really do, I do). Effectively, because the interwebs is just a earth by which yesteryear stands shoulder-to-shoulder with today's (and with fetish porn), we are able to revisit yesteryear in their inviolable presentness any moment we wish. Or at the least until this website eventually tanks. Contemplate (won't you?) Matt Nieberle's overview of Macbeth in their entirety. I've bound it with a heavy rope and pulled it here for the perusal. (Please realize that many a sic are implied in the next reviews.) their really difficult and silly! why cant we be reading like Romeo and Juliet?!?! at least that book is good! There you have it. Refreshingly, not a review published in one of many witch's comments or alluding to Hillary and Bill Clinton or discussing the reviewer's first period. Merely a primal yell unleashed into the black wilderness of the cosmos.Yes, Mr. Nieberle is (probably) a teen, but I admire his power to strongarm the temptation to be clever or ironic. (Don't you?) He speaks the native language of the idk generation by having an economy and a clarity that renders his convictions all the more emphatic. Here's MICHAEL's review of exactly the same play. You could'know'MICHAEL; he is the'Problems Architect'only at Goodreads. (A problematic title itself in that it implies he designs problems... which might be the case, for all I know.) This book shouldn't be required reading... reading plays that you never want to see is awful. Reading a play kinda sucks in the first place, if it had been meant to be read, then it would be a novel, not really a play. Together with that the teach had us students read the play aloud (on person for each character for a few pages). None of us had read the play before. None folks wanted to see it (I made the mistake of taking the'easy'english class for 6 years). The teacher picked students that appeared to be they weren't paying attention. All of this compounded to make me more or less hate reading classics for something like 10 years (granted macbeth alone wasn't the problem). I also hate iambic pentameter. Pure activism there. STOP the mandatory reading of plays. It's wrong, morally and academically. And it also can actually fuck up your GPA. There's no wasteful extravagance in this editorial... no fanfare, no fireworks, no linked photos of half-naked, oiled-up, big-bosomed starlets, no invented dialogues between mcdougal and the review-writer. It's simple and memorable. Being required to see plays is wrong, and if you require anyone, under duress, to read a play then you have sinned and are going to hell, if you believe in hell. Or even, you're likely to the DMV. I'm also fed up with all you smug spelling snobs. You damnable fascists with your new-fangled dictionaries and your fancy-schmancy spell check. Sometimes the passionate immediacy of a note overcomes its spelling limitations. Also, in this age whenever we are taught to respect each other's differences, this indicates offensively egocentric and mean-spirited to anticipate others tokowtow for your petty linguistic rules. Inventive term will certainly absolutely free itself regardless how you are attempting so that you can shackle it. That is your cue, Aubrey. Within our viewpoint, a play Macbeth was your worste peice at any time compiled by Shakespeare, and also this says quite a bit thinking of furthermore, i read his Romeo as well as Juliet. Ontop with it is really presently amazing storyline, unlikely heroes and absolutly discusting pair of ethics, Shakespeare overtly shows Sweetheart Macbeth as the true vilian in the play. Thinking of she is mearly a tone of voice throughout the spine circular and Macbeth themself can be truely carrying out the actual monsterous violations, which includes killing as well as fraudulence, I do not understand why it is so easy to assume which Macbeth could be ready to complete excellent as an alternative to evil but only if the girlfriend have been much more possitive. I do believe this engage in is uterally unrealistic. Nevertheless these is the ne furthermore extremely involving typical book reviewing. While succinct and also with no unproductive desire to help coyness as well as cuteness, Jo's review alludes to your bitterness hence deep that must be inexpressible. A person imagines some Signet Traditional Editions compromised so that you can parts with pruning shears within Jo's vicinity. I dispise this play. So much in fact of which Could not sometimes provide you with every analogies and also similes as to what amount My partner and i despise it. The incrementally snarkier type could have stated a thing like...'I dislike this kind of participate in as being a simile I can not occur with.' Certainly not Jo. Your woman articulates a raw, undecorated real truth not fit with regard to figurative language. Along with there's certainly nothing wrong along with that. Once with a great when, when you're getting neck-deep within dandified pomo hijinks, it is a great wallow inside the hog pen you will be itchin'for. Thank you, Jo. I enjoy anyone with a ineffective clasping at similes which can't approach the particular bilious hate in the heart. You will be my verizon prepaid phone, in addition to I am yours. Figuratively discussing, connected with course. And now here i will discuss my assessment: Macbeth by means of Bill Shakespeare is the foremost fictional perform while in the British language, in addition to anybody who disagrees is surely an asshole along with a dumbhead.
